Bristol Director of Rugby Andy Robinson has insisted that the Rugby Football Union have not approached his forwards coach Steve Borthwick for the England team
Former England captain Borthwick was Japan assistant coach under Eddie Jones at the Rugby world cup but has since joined Bristol.
There has been speculation that once Jones had been appointed as England head coach he would bring in 36-year-old Borthwick as an assistant.
Jones has been appointed on a four year deal and needs to move quickly to prepare for the upcoming Six Nations championship.
“There has been no contact from the RFU,” Robinson told BBC Radio Bristol.
“It is very simple for us: Steve Borthwick is employed by Bristol Rugby.”
“He is here for two years and his focus is on Bristol Rugby getting promotion.”
Borthwick’s relationship with Jones dates back to the time when the former Japan coach was in charge of Saracens while Andy Robinson had Borthwick as his captain during his tenure as England head coach.
Borthwick retired from playing in 2014 and signed up as Bristol forwards coach last month.
